Abstract

The lipid(-like)material constitutes up to 90 wt. % (dry basis) of the mixt. A new milk replacer for young mammals consists of dried skimmed milk and/or >=1 other milk-replacer ingredient (including other protein and/or carbohydrate-contg. ingredients), (part of) which is replaced by finely comminuted leguminous material. The new foodstuffs are useful as e.g. milk replacers, fodder for young ruminants, and foods for children and adults. In an example, a spray-dried prod., useful as an additive for calf milk replacers, is prepd. by using comminuted cotyledons from fully ripened Vicia faba beans and lipid such as tallow, or a mixt. of tallow and coconut oil or hydrogenated palm kernel oil.
