Abstract

Milk is transfered from a reservoir to a storage cistern via a flexible pipe connected to a pump. Gas is removed by a gas purger placed upstream of the pump. The gas purger comprises a degassing valve connected to a vacuum chamber which is connected to a vacuum pump. This process enables froth to be separated from the liquid and permits the counter to effect precise volumetric measurements. The gas purger may include a cyclone which receives the milk tangentially at its upper end, the pump being pref. mounted on the cyclone.
