Abstract
An electrical insulator may be used for suspension of DC power cables. The design is intended to overcome problems due to corrosion and electrolytic attack by salty or polluted atmospheres peculiar to DC lines. The core (5) of the insulator is in the form of a bobbin of porcelain or some other insulating material. The ends of the bobbin are extended as two short rods capped by metal end pieces (1). The inward facing surfaces of the end caps have two or more part annular plates (3) of a metal such as zinc or aluminium which have a greater tendency to ionization than the end cap material and are eroded preferentially.
