Abstract

The arc quenching gas flow is generated by a compression device consisting of a cylinder and a piston. For matching this intensity and duration of the arc blasting, the cylinder has between its upper part and the piston two vertically mounted intermediate bottoms, fitted with springs and valves. The blast characteristics can be thus matched to different electric loads. Preferably the upper intermediate bottom abuts the upper end of the cylinder via a spring, the lower intermediate bottom abutting in the same way the piston. The valves are held in position by different springs and are opened on impact of their pins against the cylinder or piston respectively.
