Abstract
The binder, in addition to the boron aluminium phosphate, alkaline earth metal and water defined in the principal patent 603,274, additionally contains a polyol containing at least two adjacent hydroxyl groups and from 2 to 20 carbon atoms, or the corresponding tautomeric keto compounds or an organic acid. The additional compound is present in an amount of from 0.5 to 25% by weight, based on the total weight of boron aluminium compound and additional compound. The binder is suitable for the production of refractory materials, abrasives and moulds, in particular foundry moulds and foundry cores which cure at room temperature to give good strength.
