Abstract

The adjustable spanner has a fixed (1a) and a slideable jaw (2). A rack (2c) and worm (3) mechanism is used to move the sliding jaw (2). The worm is mounted on an axle pin (4) so as to rotate freely. The fixed jaw is built onto the end of a lever (1). The mobile jaw (2) has a projecting rail (2b) which is notched (2c) to form a rack. The rail slides in a matching groove (1c) provided in the tool head. The worm (3) is mounted in a window (1d) provided in the tool head and is secured inplaced by the axle pin (4). The axle pin may be conical (4a) giving a uniform reduction of pin dia. relative to pin length, and fits inside a reciprocal worm aperture (3a).
