Abstract

The solar collector (10) has a transparent front (11) and opaque insulated sides (12). It contains an evaporator (13) which has a cylindrical body (131) with fins (132) and an internal tube (133) inside the main cylinder (131). An air or water heater (14) is constructed similarly with a casing (15) through which the fluid to be heated is pumped. This casing contains a condenser (16) with a cylindrical body (161) having fins (162) and an internal tube (163). The evaporator and condenser are connected by a heat pipe (17) with a central core (171) through which vapour flows one way surrounded by an annulus (172) through which liquid returns. Alternatively they can be connected by a heat pump circuit with a compressor and expansion valve. The solar collector can thus be added as an auxiliary heater to existing installations.
