Abstract

The compensating union connects together sections of conduit which are of different cross-section, out of alignment or at an angle to each other. The union is particularly suitable for gas and central heating appliances. Lack of alignment is compensated by connecting to the threaded ends of each conduit one of a pair of interlocked internally-threaded sockets (1, 2). Each of these sockets widens out into a flange, which the socket enters offset from the centre. By rotating the sockets relative to each other, a range of eccentricities can be accommodated, up to the sum of the two socket eccentricities. The sockets are locked together by a rectangular groove and rim arrangement, and sealing is achieved using a ring (6) between abutting shoulders (4, 5).
