Abstract

An arrangement for buring waste oil, esp. oil from the sumps of internal combustion engines, injected as a vapour into the hearth of a central heating boiler, has a vessel into which the crude oil is filled after having been filtered. In this vessel there are heaters positioned so that the flow of the crude oil is brought into their proximity the raising of the temp. of the oil resulting in the breaking up of the constituents of the mixt., and the settling out of suspensions of solid matter and of the water content as an emulsion. The oil phase rises to the surface of the fluid in the vessel which has a drain positioned at a point high enough from the bottom for the clean oil to be drawn off, as well as a vent for the sediment and the aqueous matter. A pump propels the oil through a heat exchange ensuring that the oil injected from the nozzle into the boiler hearth is at a high enough temp. The nozzle assembly has a byepass to a return line with a stop valve so that starting up is facilitated. The arrangement overcomes the difficulties of recovering spent lubricating oil contaminated with particles of metal, water, etc. and enables waste oil from engine sumps to be used 100% for central heating, hot air generators.
