Abstract

1,269,031. Purifying oils. BOWSER Inc. 7 Jan., 1970 [8 Jan., 1969], No. 808/70. Heading C5E. A process for the purification of oils and the like comprising the steps of transferring the oil from an inlet supply line to a controlled heater to raise the outlet temperature of the oil above the inlet temperature; coalescing at least a portion of the water in the oil by passing the oil through a filter-separator to coalesce and remove substantially all free water and solid contaminant from the oil; removing the coalesced water from the filter-separator in liquid form; separately transferring the oil from the filterseparator and passing the oil through a vacuum degasifier wherein the remaining water in the oil and dissolved air and gases are boiled off through evaporation; and then returning the oil to the place of intended use. The temperature may be 40‹-200‹ F. and the process is particularly suited to the treatment of transformer oils.
