Abstract

Motor vehicles have numerous controls, many of which are illuminated by a light which must be visible by day, but not overpowering by night. By using a multicoloured display, the driver can not only see the control, but can tell from the colour what position it is in. A number of different configurations are described, including one in which a single light source illuminates the keys of a keyboard control unit. The principle of operation employs a different coloured filter (3a, 3b) interposed between the light source (1) and the screen (2) for alternative positions of the control.
