Abstract

The twin-shaft Z-type propelling arrangement for a tug boat includes a main engine, a Z-type propeller connected to the engine, a variable slip transmission provided between the main engine and the Z-type propellor, means for regulating the speed of the engine and means for varying the slip for the variable slip transmission. Means control the engine speed regulating means and the means for varying the slip of the variable slip transmission limits the slip of the transmission means such that slip occurs only during the dead slow speed operation of the main engine.
