Abstract
A lighting system for a bicycle, designed to supercede a conventional dynamo, employs permanent magnets, arranged as a continuous ring along the bicycle tyre and embedded in the wall of the tyre, or attached afterwards by adhesive or other means. A stator is attached near the tyre so that a current is generated in the stator as the wheel rotates. Alternative magnet arrangements include side by side rings of magnets, where some magnets in one ring can be staggered with respect to magnets in the other rings, and arrangements where the magnetic poles are differently arranged, the multi-row arrangements using more than one stator. These alternatives can produce a constant voltage at different speeds.
