Abstract

A central heating boiler has a burner (2) which projects horizontally into the combustion chamber (1) underneath a screen (3), and a water jacket (4) around the chamber. A horizontal flue (5) is followed by a vertical chimney (6) and a three way valve (9) directs fresh air to the burner, or in an alternative position, directs heated air from a bladed jacket (10) around the flue. This valve has a set of blades, and is controlled by a thermosensitive sensor (11) in the bend between the flue and chimney so that during start up, the supply of air through the jacket is cutt off, and fresh air is instead supplied.
