Abstract

The equipment deals with two nuts at a time, having two tensioning members each for attaching to the end of a stud or bolt and mounted on a common bridge piece with hydraulic ram, so as to stretch the studs by moving the bridge piece in their axial direction. It is particularly for use on heavy crankshaft bearing caps. The tension members (10, 11) extend clear of the bridge piece (6), which is supported by the central ram piston (50) directly on one of the two components to be secured together. Each tension member can have an internally-threaded sleeve section (14, 15) at one end by which it screws onto the end of the stud (22, 23), and can slide in the bridge piece. It has an external thread (18, 19) on the other end, accommodating a nut (20, 21) locking it in position on the bridge piece.
