Abstract

Imitation wood grain surface is produced on thermoplastic film by photographically providing colour separations of a wood original, forming printing cylinders according to the colour separations, and printing the grain onto the film by a multi-colour printing process. The film is then impressed to simulate pores with a stamping cylinder of which the pattern is produced from a colour separation of the wood original, and the stamped areas are filled with dye. A transparent film or lacquer may be applied to the printed side prior to stamping.
