Abstract

The electrically driven impact drill has a set of gears (18, 17, 10) between the toothed motor spindle (19) and the spindle (11) to which the nose (1) of the drill is attached, driving it, and when the drill is pushed into the work, the nose is pushed back against a spring (2) so that a pair of balls (5) locating in a groove (4) on the spindle are forced outwards onto a larger diameter part of the spindle, and engage grooves cut in a gear pinion (6) around the rear of the nose, which is driven by a toothed extension (14) of a shaft (16) forming a continuation of the toothed part (17) of the drive spindle. This carries a toothed cam portion (15) against which is forced a drive block (8) by a spring (9) which also locates against the gear pinion (10) forming part of the drive, and the drive block is then reciprocated against the inner end of the nose.
