Abstract

A D.C. electric motor is powered by a battery of accumulators. The stator casing carries one or more sets of permanent magnet poles (4) with alternating polarities and the rotor one or more sets of electro-magnets (8a, 8b) connected to an orthodox armature and brush arrangement. The sets of pole pieces in excess of one, are equally spaced in the length dimension of the stator casing, the pole pieces being offset, with respect to each other, by about a third of the distance between poles. The rotor pole piece sets are similarly staggered with respect to each other and mounted on a common shaft (2), providing two or more discrete motor elements in parallel.
