Abstract

867,659. A.C. motors. VENNER Ltd. Jan. 22, 1960 [Jan. 22, 1959], No. 2472/59. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXVI] A self-starting synchronous electric motor has a permanent magnet rotor with interdigitated poles 2a. Two identical stators each have a soft iron core 4 and an energizing winding 6. On the ends of core 4 are secured stator elements 7 and 8, the teeth on element 7 interdigitating with those on element 8 so that polepieces 7a, 8a are alternately North and South. The two stators are arranged on either side of the rotor so that their poles intermesh giving alternate pairs of North and South poles (Fig. 3), with twice as many stator poles as rotor poles. The four stator elements may alternatively be arranged with their poles pointing in the same direction. Windings 6 are energized from the same single-phase source and a capacitor may be connected in series with one or both windings, the capacitor comprising paper and foil wrapped round casing 9 within shell 11.
