Abstract

The motor drive is connected via two bevel gears to two coaxial drive shafts, one each side of the motor drive shaft. At the outer extreme of each shaft is the fixed outer half of a V-pulley and inboard of each of these is the sliding inner half of each pulley. The sliding halves are interconnected by a control-bar, so that as one pulley is opened the other is closed. These pulleys are connected by V-belts to pulleys fixed to secondary coaxial shafts. These shafts feed a conventional differential, from which emerges a driven shaft. By slow movement of the control bar, drive is gradually removed from one pulley, through a period of 'no-drive' to the other, building up progressively to full speed.
