Abstract

The profiled surface of the transfer roller tends to force the ink film axially inwards and consists of a spiral shaped grooves whose depth amounts to some tenths of a millimetre. In one design the grooves on the one half of the roller form a left-hand spiral and on the other half a right-hand spiral. Alternatively the transfer roller has a double-cone shape running in the longitudinal direction whereby the smallest cross-sectional area is in the centre. In a further design the roller has a right- or left-hand spiral running along its length. Alternatively the roller has a constant diameter along its length but has end regions which are rougher than those in the centre of the roller.
