Abstract

Nibs made by sharpening one end of a group of cylindrical thermoplastic profiles 0.1-1.0mm dia. each having several longitudinal slots 0.03-0.3 mm deep and 0.01-0.05mm wide, the group being enclosed in a thermoplastic matrix or sheath. Tool construction is simpler and tool wear less than for making multibore profiles in a single operation. The pattern and number of slotted profiles is readily adapted to suit different ink capillary flow characteristics. Suitable materials are polyacetal, polyphenyleneoxide, polypropylene, high density polyethylene, nylon and polyvinylidene fluoride.
