Abstract

The spring piston is engaged at its respective end faces by the spring, a membrane and a plate combination constituting the air piston. The axial extent of the spring piston, where engaging its cylinder is such as to include a peripheral recess bound by seals at each axial end and being of an axial extent greater than the stroke of the piston. The cylinder has an air pressure inlet to the recess and through a passage in the piston wall to a gap between the piston and the membrane so that the air piston can be operated with the spring piston as reaction member.
