Abstract
The continuously variable transmission unit has roller disc inserts located between an input flange and an output disc. Here the roller discs have centres that are inclined relative to each other. Each roller has a double cone outer profile and is mounted upon ball races. Contact between rollers occurs with the slightly greater cone surface. Transmission between input flange and output disc takes place by rolling contact utilising the smaller cone surfaces of the rollers. The inclined roller arrangements permits transverse loading components to be handled.
