Abstract

The flare achieves smokeless combustion of hydrocarbon waste gases forwarded vertically upward in a flare chimney. Combustion is maintained at the top of the chimney by an igniter. Steam blow-in nozzles are distributed around the chimney near the tip and are directed onto the gases, and steam under press. can be fed to the nozzles, which have elements that allow the steam to flow out with supercritical speed from the nozzles. Preferably the flow direction of the steam runs upward over the tip of the chimney and into the burning gases. The steam promotes a highly turbulent mixing of gas and air plus steam.
