Title cpds are of formula (I): where R' = H or 1-3C alkyl; A = 1-3C alkylene, R2 = OH, 1-6C alkoxy, mono or di-arylmethoxy, N (alkyl)2, N (alkyl)(aralkyl) or N (aralkyl)2, where alkyl = 1-6C and aralkyl = 7-9C, 5-7 membered polymethyleneimino or morpholino both opt. substd. by l.alkyl and with is not >10C or R2A = di (1-4C alkoxy) methyl or 3-6C alkylenedioxymethyl, and rings B and C are opt. subst. by F, Cl, Br, CF3, 1-6C alkyl, or 1-6C alkoxy, and salts and N-oxide of I. I are prepd. e.g. by condensing the corresp. benzodiazepin-6-one with an aryl Mg halide.
