Abstract

The roller bearing, supporting a shaft with axis (1), has an inner race (2) and rollers (3) and (4) carried by a cage (5) which run on the outer race (7). The outer race (7) fits in a housing (6) which is provided witha continuous helical groove, of rectangular cross-section and extending several times, (8), (9), (10), (11), (12), around the circumference of the inner surface. The end groove (12) communicates with a pipe (18) supplying cooling oil from a cooler (17) and a pump (16). The pump (16) draws its supply from the trough (15) into which the used oil from the end groove (13) is drained. The system maintains bearing temperature rise to 2 deg.C to 5 deg.C above ambient.
