Abstract

A thermal treatment roller comprises a hollow rotor mounted on a stator housing heating or cooling means, and a solid heat-conducting lubricating connecting element, in contact with the outer periphery of the stator and inner periphery of the rotor. In the case of a heating roller, Fig. 1, the rotor consists of a stainles steel tube 5, with a driving pinion 6 at one end and mounted on the stator which consists of an inner insulated support 4 for the heating coil 3 which is enclosed by a fixed outer bearing sleeve 2 of sintered bronze impregnated with a mineral or silicone oil, or a solid lubricant such as graphite or a heavy metal salt, e.g. MoS 2 , WS 2 , NbSe 2 or TaSe 2 , or ethylene, poly tetrafluoride. A temperature sensing probe 9 may be fitted in sleeve 2. The sleeve 2 may be in three portions, the outer and inner ones being connected to the rotor and stator respectively, Fig. 4 (not shown). In the form shown in Fig. 3, the rotor 12 is connected by an end plate 18 to a shaft 17 carrying a drive pinion 16, the connection between members 10 and 18 being effected by pins 19 in radial slots 21.
