Abstract

Surface of an unsatd. elastomer is modified in order to improve subsequent bonding, e.g. to metals or paints, or to decrease its tackiness, by coating with a 4-substd.-1,2, 4-triazine-3, 5-dione. The 4-substituent is pref. 1-6C alkyl, phenyl, naphthyl or another 1,2,4-triazine-3, 5-dione group bonded via a phenylene group. The cpd. is applied as a soln. in an org. solvent, pref. a volatile ester, by coating, spraying, or dipping. The soln. pref. contains 1-200 g/l. of the cpd., and 0.1-20 g esp. 2-10g cpd. is applied per m2 elastomer surface. The elastomer pref. consists of natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber or butdiene rubber, and is opt. vulcanised.
