Abstract

A natural or synthetic rubber composition is bonded to a metal surface by a process wherein 50 to 150 parts of a Group IVA metal oxide (specifically titanium dioxide) is incorporated in 100 parts of vulcanizable rubber composition, said composition is applied to the metal surface, and the composition is vulcanized. The compositions may also contain silica.ALSO:A metal sheet, e.g. a steel plate, is coated with a composition comprising a solution in organic solvent of a vulcanisible natural or synthetic rubber containing 50 to 150 parts by weight of titanium dioxide per 100 parts of rubber. Thereafter the assembly, optionally consisting of several such layers, is vulcanised to bond the rubber to the metal.
