Abstract

Natural or synthetic elastomers are bonded to a support by coating the elastomer wtih a thin layer of adhesive (I), evaporating the solvent from the adhesive, stoving and then bonding the coated elastomer to the support with a suitable adhesive (II), pref. at room temp. Used esp. for cold-bonding elastomers which are difficult to adhere, e.g., "Vistalon" and "Nordel" (RTM) to large metal surfaces, e.g. when protecting rocket-propellers with an internal lining of rubber. Pref. (I) is a known primer and comprises mixts. of resins, elastomers and fillers, dissolved or dispersed in solvents. Examples are Chemlok, Chemosil, Thixon and Megum (RTM's). (II) may be e.g. epoxy ("Araldite"), silicones ("RTV"), polysulphides ("Thiokol"), polyurethanes, polyesters etc. (I) may be applied onto raw or cured rubber.
