Abstract

No component parts can be seen when seat is up, giving an improved appearance. A sleeve (1) is embedded in the seat (2) during manufacture. Through its bore is passed a torsion coil spring (4) with one end (4a) fitting in a location (3) in the sleeve. The other end (4b) of the spring is held in a slot (5a) in a shaft (5) passing through the spring and held in bearings (6) in the sleeve. Correct spring tension is obtained using a special tool in the slot (5a) of the shaft before this is locked in place. The shaft ends are mounted in bearing in the seat frame and the shaft is locked in position by grub screw (8).
