Abstract

A heat exchanger module comprises a number of parallel vessels or drums, integrally connected together as a unit, e.g., three in number, to permit a single warm fluid to be cooled by heat transfer from three different coolant paths passing through the three drums. Each drum is a plate heat exchanger with the plates extending transversely, the hot pass being across all three drums, while each drum operates as a flooded drum with respect to its refrigerant or coolant, which flows vertically. The hot and cold passes are sealed around the edges by rectangular strips, except for the hot fluid inlet and outlet, and cold fluid inlets and outlets. Used esp. in cascade cooling circuits, using different coolants such as propane, ethane, methane. A typical application is the liquiefying or natural gas.
