Abstract

During the continuous galvanising of strip, iron oxide and other foreign matter is carried into the pre-heating furnace onto the rolls. The heating conditions are such that the oxides etc. can sinter onto the rolls causing projections which dent the steel strip, making defects which are clearly visible after galvanising. This problem can be avoided by water-cooling the rollers so that their max. temp. is 200 degrees C. and this method can be used in a non-oxidising furnace or in a reducing-atmos.
