Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the flatness of a steel plate and decrease the variance in mechanical properties by flattening the same with a hot leveler right after hot finish rolling then hardening the same with a roller quench type hardening apparatus. CONSTITUTION:The thick steel plate having been emitted from an ingot heating furnace 1 for slab etc. and hot rolled by a roughing mill 2 and a finishing mill 3 is passed through a hot leveler 4, whereby it is corrected of the distortions produced by the rolling to have better flatness. Thence, this steel plate is hardened by means of a roller quench type hardening apparatus. In the apparatus 5, it is hardened while it is grasped and conveyed by upper and lower rollers, hence, the cambers in the longitudinal and width direction of the thick steel plate are suppressed. Because of this, the thick steel plate is hardened at a uniform and proper hardening temperature from the leading end up to the trailing end. After the hardening, it is subjected to ordinary annealing with an annealing apparatus 6.
