Abstract
A process for sampling and separating liq. and gaseous phases, from a circuit contg. liq. under pressure at ambient temp., consists of isolating a vol. of the liq. in a prim. container which is connected to a second buffer container and a third removable container. The second and third containers can be under vacuum, reducing the pressure in the first container when connecting valves are opened, and causing transfer of a large part of the gas dissolved in the liq. in the first container, the remainder being swept out by inert gas. The sample of gas thus obtd. in the third container is analysed and from the vol. and press. the compsn. and quantity of the gas dissolved in the liq. under press. in the circuit are determined. The system is integral with the circuit and provides two phases immediately usable for analysis, giving a means of detecting rupture in pressured water fission reactors. It may be used in all liq. circuits contg. radioactive gases, miscellaneous containers, effluent circuits, etc.
