Abstract
Fouling and high-temp. corrosion in combustion units and combustion gas conduits are inhibited by adding to the fuel (a) an aqs. or alcoholic soln. of Mg, Ca, Al, Zn, Cu, Ce, Sc, Yt and/or La (pref. as sulphates, carbonates, nitrates or acetates) and (b) either a pref. highly disperse oxide (esp. SiO2) dispersed in soln. (a) or a separate batch of ethyl silicate (ca. 40% SiO2) or silicone oil. Prefd. solns. contain >=2 of Mg, Al, Ca, Zn and Si, one being Mg, Zn or Ca. The wt. ratio of Mg, Ca and/or Zn to the V in the fuel is pref. 1-10:1 and the wt. ratio of Al and Si to Mg, Ca and/or Zn is pref.
