Abstract

A method of joining hydraulic pipes. The end of one pipe is expanded and the lip turned back completely on itself internally, to form an open cone. The other tube end is similarly fashioned but the lip is only partially bent back inwards, forming a conical outside face which fits inside the open cone of the first tube. A large nut fits on the first tube and is shaped internally to support the belled out end; it is also threaded internally to accept a similar nut on the other tube. Screwing the nuts together compresses the tube ends and forms a metal to metal seal.
