Abstract
Twisted tows of a continuous filament are fed to a cutter device which cuts them into fibres of a predetermined lengths and the fibres are fed directly e.g. pneumatically to a carding device, which forms them into a carded lap. The tows may be of different materials and the blades of the cutter device are pref. adjustable to allow the tows to be cut into fibres of different lengths. The method is cheap and quick and simplifies mixing different kinds of fibres. Natural fibres may be mixed with the synthetic fibres between the cutter and carding devices.
