Abstract

Appts. for chopping cable strands of continuous synthetic or semi-synthetic filaments, into staple fibres, has an even number of cutting blades located at variable intervals of arc on the cutting head. The cutting surfaces of the blades alternate by an angle of pitch to the rotating plane of the cutting head to cut the cable strand at an angle either side of 90 degrees. the sitting disc for the location of the blades being suitably structured. The system ensures that a predetermined variation of staple fibre lengths are cut from the same cable strand to give a controlled blend of lengths and ratios in the mixture of fibres produced.
