Abstract

is removed from waste gas prior to release to the atmosphere by contacting the gas with a non-volatile base, esp. triethanolamine in aq. soln. at 30-85 degrees C, the sulphite soln. formed is treated at 100-160 degrees C with a gas rich in water to regenerate the absorbing soln. and produce a gaseous disengagement contg. SO2 and water. The gas effluent is then treated with H2S to produce S which ppts. and is collected.
