1486286 Degassing water S R KENNEDY 25 Oct 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 46316/74 Heading B1M A method of removing noxious gases e.g. ammonium or sulphur dioxide from water reclaimed from sewage comprises introducing the water near the top of a closed structure, converting the water into a shower by dispersion through perforations, further scattering the water in the shower by passing at least a portion through further perforations and cascading any balance as streams without adding heat to the water, replacing noxious gases in the water with air by drawing a countercurrent of air at substantially ambient temperature through and in intimate contact with the showering and scattering water, entraining the noxious gases in the countercurrent of air removing the air and entrained noxious gases near the top of the structure and removing purified water near the bottom of the structure.
