Abstract

1396390 Purifying gases; particularly of H 2 S and NH 2 SIDMAR NV 12 June 1972 [11 June 1971] 27311/72 Heading C1A H 2 S and NH 3 removed from gas streams by (a) scrubbing the gas countercurrently with an aq. soln. of FeSO 4 thereby forming an aq. ammoniacal soln. of FeSO 4 containing pptd. FeS, (b) contacting the ammoniacal FeSO 4 soln. countercurrently with a stream of air thereby releasing NH 3 gas and S in the form of a froth and regenerating the FeSO 4 soln. which is recycled to the scrubbing step (a), (c) washing the S with water and then heating the resultant S under pressure, the FeSO 4 soln. formed during the washing also being recycled to the scrubbing step (a). The ammoniacal FeSO 4 soln. is preferably held in a storage tank prior to regeneration thereby reducing the formation of
