Abstract

Mfr. of reinforced concrete panels for cladding building structures, where the inner faces of the panels featured a pattern of recesses or channels defined by casting the cement upon a suitably preformed plastic sheet is described in the parent patent. Selective prefilling of some recesses in the support tray with a lightweight mortar which (a) helps to stiffen the tray and (b) becomes and in situ filling for accepting nails or other fastenings during erection of the cladding or in service, e.g. to secure a decorative sheet, is described in addn. Pref. the mortar comprises a Portland cement filled with sand and low density aggregates, specif. of cork, perlite or polystyrene. The local support of the mortar may reduce the thickness of the profiled plastic sheet needed to support the cladding panel before the concrete becomes self-supporting.
