Abstract

A second protective oscillating diaphragm is fitted, to isolate the pumping diaphragm from atmosphere, and prevent loss of liquefied gas, in event of rupture or leakage. The second diaphragm is sited between the eccentric drive shaft, and the diaphragm proper, and displaces less volume because it is clamped over a smaller area; thus it is subject to less stress, and being made of the same material, has longer life than the pumping diaphragm. Failure of diaphragm proper is obvious, because of output reduction, e.g. of 75%. Pref. a centering spring is fitted to piston, between the diaphragms, to reduce wear.
