Abstract

713,239. Flexible tube pumps. AMES CROSTA MILLS & CO., Ltd. Sept. 21, 1953 [Aug. 20, 1952], No. 20859/52. Class 110(2) Relates to pumps of the kind in which a flexible tube 26, through which the fluid is pumped, lies against an arcuate track 13 and is squeezed progressively from end to end of the track by one or more pressure members, such as rollers 21, revolving round an axis concentric with the track. According. to the invention the compression and recovery of the tube takes place in a sealed liquidfilled container; by this means the recovery of the flattened tube is largely independent of the resilient qualities of the material of which it is made. The container shown is bounded by the track 13, two side plates, and a slightly domed top 14, the latter being fitted with a cock 16 which can permit water or oil from a bottle 15 to pass into the container. The rollers 21 are mounted on studs 22 fitted to a disc 20 on a shaft 18. the studs being eccentrically arranged so that the radial positions of the rollers on the disc may be varied. The output of the pump may be varied by increasing or decreasing the volume of the fluid in the container, such adjustment serving to vary, in inverse proportion, the volume of the chamber occupied by the tube. This is effected by providing a container extension 28, Fig. 3, in the side wall 11, and by providing in the extension a piston 35 which can be adjusted by screw and nut mechanism 32, 34. the nut 32 of which is connected to a hand wheel 31.
