Abstract

Use of lede buritic iron-chrome alloys of compsn. 2.5 - 3.5% C, 0.2 - 2% Si, 0.3 - 2.2% Mn, 10-17% Cr, =1.5% Mg, 3% W, 0.8% Va, plus other traces, balance Fe as a material for mfr. of cold working implements, e.g. rolls for rolling mills, is proposed. These alloys are either air or quench hardened and given a further sub-zero treatment in liq., air, etc., to give extra hardness development. Material so trated has very good wear resistance, hardness and resistance to torsional and bending stresses.
