Abstract
Magnetic alloy contg. 0-12 (-ref. >0.2) wt. % Si, the rest being an alloy comprising 15-35 (pref. 15-30) wt% Co, 25-40 wt. % Cr, 0-20 (pref. 1-5) wt. % Mo, 0-20 (pref. 5-15) wt.% w and Fe the rest. The alloy is prepd. by soln. heat-treating at 1200-1400 degrees C for >10 mins. tempering and ageing at 530-650 degrees C for 1-9hrs. or more. The alloy has improved magnetic qualities since its magnetic remanence and energy prod. are equal to or sometimes better than Alnico alloys and it is more easily machined than the usual alloys, and can be easily cast.
