Abstract

Aqs. HCHO solns. contg. 1% MeOH are stabilised against oligomerisation and pptn. of paraformaldehyde, with stabilisers comprising (a) 2:4-diamino-triazines-(1:3:5) of formula (I):- (where R is 7-9C alkyl opt. linked via S or pref. O to the triazine ring, or phenyl) or their methylol derivs, and (b) hydrophilic polyglycol ethers of fatty alcohols or partial esters of polyalcohols and fatty acids. Cpds. (I) include benzoguanamine and 2:4-diamino-6-acetoxy-triazine (1:3:5) and are used in amts. of 0.005-0.2%.
