Abstract

Piston lies between the propellant and the pellets in a shotgun cartridge. The piston comprises a cylindrical body with undulating walls and recessed end faces covered with stiff card. Axial compression/radial expansion of the piston when the propellant is detonated prevents gas by-passing the shot. Sub claims cover piston bodies made of felt or moulded in cellulose acetate and waxed. Process improves propellant efficiency to obtain higher muzzle velocity.
